Aotearoa – The Land of the Long White Cloud
N ew Zealand is a land of clean and unique cities, stunning landscapes,
fascinating Maori culture and of course the head rush of danger sports and everything else that drains your adrenaline bank. Yet New Zealand is often overlooked by the backpacker community, who seem to spend most of their time and money in Australia, New Zealand’s larger oceanic sibling.
If anyone does come to the country, it is usually for a couple of weeks after spending a few months in Australia and maybe sampling the exotic delights of the backpacker’s perennial favourite South East Asia. This does not do New Zealand justice and with the sights, sounds and experiences on offer in this enchanting Country, a few months more will allow you to see and feel more of what is on offer.
Of course, since the release of the Lord of the Rings trilogy at cinemas worldwide, New Zealand has joined the forefront of holiday destinations gaining in popularity. The country regularly wins awards on the most popular/cleanest/safe destination in the world, from various respected publications and television programmes and more and more holiday makers are visiting the small pacific nation.
The Infrastructure of New Zealand, like all other western nations, is well worked and completely reliable and the many backpacker’s tours and hostels available make it an easy trip to enjoy. While it may not be the cheapest place to travel, it is also not on the most expensive list either and with many of the activities and trips aimed at the budget traveller; costs are kept at a low.
So, this article is here to educate you backpackers! New Zealand is not just a stop off after a visit to Australia and South East Asia; it is a destination in its own right and perfect for the backpacker.
