Backpacking Cambodia
Before you leave for Cambodia
Things you need to consider prior to leaving for your vacation in Cambodia
Before you leave for your trip to Cambodia, there are a few things
that will needed to be sorted out, to ensure you have the perfect vacation.
Travel insurance is vital for any trip whether it is a small weekend break or a full
blown year long trip around the world. You will want to find the best insurance for you and which covers all of your needs including
Backpacking Cambodia.
You will also need to determine what you will need to take with you to
Cambodia, including backpacking, clothing, wash gear, medical kit and other useful items. Making sure that you have all you will need and that it suits you is vital to make your life a lot more comfortable and
stress free whilst you are in Cambodia.
A trip to
Cambodia will need certain medical requirements and you should make sure that your Typhoid and Polio
vaccinations are up to date and that you have also had your Tetanus booster and that it is also up to date. Malaria exists throughout the country
and unfortunately the recommended treatment differs depending on where you visit. If you are planning on seeing the western provinces then you
are advised to take Doxycycline, but everywhere else in Cambodia it is recommended you take
Mefloquine. If you are worried about Malaria treatment and its side effects then we advise you to speak to your Doctor or a Travel Health
Clinic.
Another consideration will be how you will take your money with you.
There will be times when you might wish you had a contingency plan and so a little thought whilst in the planning stage, can go a long way in
making your trip a lot easier.
Visas and documentation will all be needed to be sorted out before you
depart and not having all your paperwork in order when you arrive can make life very difficult for you and could even end up in your
deportation back home.
Finally your flight to Cambodia
will need to be sorted out, this will probably be your greatest single expense and it is advisable to look around for the
best deals. It is very rare to find direct flights to Cambodia itself, so the likelihood is you will fly into Bangkok
or Singapore where flights can be found to Phnom Penh. The budget airline Air Asia is particularly useful if this is the case.
Travel Insurance
Travel Insurance is absolutely vital when you travel abroad and
although when you look at the cost it may seem very expensive, just remember that it will cover you when you are injured or you have had
something stolen. Never leave with out it!
There are many Travel Insurance firms out there and you should make
sure that you get the best offer for you. If you plan to do some bungee jumping or skiing while in New
Zealand, make sure that your policy covers those activities. Just think of the cost of repatriation and rescue if
you break your leg out in the remote provinces. The cost of that policy doesn’t seem too much now, does it?
Many Insurance companies offer specialist policies for backpackers and
those who are travelling to South East Asia. As you will be travelling in a country that
has poor Health services and even poorer infrastructure, you will have to be flown out to Thailand
or Malaysia if you are seriously injured and this will cost a
packet!
To make sure you get the best deal on Travel insurance you should look
for different quotes and compare them to see which of these suit you and your itinerary. For more on finding the right insurance policy for you, check out the article How to get the travel insurance that suits
you!
