Resorts in Lanzarote
Puerto del Carmen
Puerto del Carmen is the main and busiest/liveliest resort on Lanzarote and has golden sandy
beaches from Playa Fariones to Playa Grande to Playa Matagorda. There are an abundance of shops, shopping
centres, bars and nightclubs that line the main street and at the back there are low-rise apartments. There are heaps of good English,
Irish and Scottish bars along The Strip and the Centre Atlantico has a number of cocktail bars and can be a good place to begin the
evening. The scenic harbour offers a great location for excellent Tapas bars and more authentic fish restaurants. Along the main road,
karaoke, cocktail bars and a casino can also be found. If you are fortunate enough, there maybe colourful fiesta or carnival taking place
whilst you are there.
All kinds of water sports can be arranged at the beach with banana boat rides, jet skiing and
sailing. Deep-sea fishing trips are available and Scuba diving schools take trips to local wrecks as well and lessons can be taken. Boat
trips depart from the harbour and from Puerto Calero. There is tennis and squash within the resort and golf and horse riding in close
proximity.
The beach at Playa Blanca which is mostly known as Playa Grande – so as not to be confused
with Playa Blanca in the south of the Island. It is bordered by a promenade and is over a kilometre in length and a hundred metres wide,
there are lots of facilities available such as lifeguards, showers, changing areas, washrooms, hammock rentals, parasols, boats and water
sports equipment.
Playa de los Pocillos
The beach here is 1,300m long with golden sand with exceptional conditions for swimming and
windsurfing and lessons for windsurfing and parasailing. There is a good selection of low-rise apartments in this area but fewer shops and
pubs than Puerto Del Carmen.
Playa de Matagorda
Matagorda
beach is a small golden sand beach located near Lanzarote airport on the outskirts of Puerto del Carmen. There are good winds and
fast-running tides here – excellent for windsurfers but not so good for swimming. A windsurfing school can be found here for beginners
who’d like lessons.
Puerto Calero
Puerto Calero is located not far from Puerto del Carmen and is the place to go for boat
trips, submarine trips and more. a free bus service is available from Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise to Puerto Calero.
Playa Blanca
Playa Blanca is located at the farthest south point of Lanzarote and surrounds the old
fishing Village which keeps its charisma and character. This peaceful resort lies away from the other lively resorts and so named because
of the white sandy beaches around it. Around three quarters of this part of the coastline is taken up by Playa Blanca, the rest occupied by
beaches and the craggy coastline of Papagayo. Activity is mainly centred surrounding the old fishing village, but the town is growing
quickly extending both east and west. The beaches of Papagayo are like an extension of Playa Blanca and regarded by many as some of the
best beaches of the entire archipelago. An enormous bay that stretches along the coastline for
around 9km - shelters three wide bays which include smaller bays. Together, they extend from the lighthouse at Pechiguera Point in the west
to Papagayo Point in the east.
The island of Fuerteventura lies around 10km to the south across a narrow stretch of the Atlantic Ocean and the little Isle of Lobos is just in front of it. As well as the little harbour – where
Ferries depart regularly to Fuerteventura, a marina has been built between the centre of Playa Blanca and the Papagayo beaches. Marina
Rubicon has around 400 berths for lavish leisure craft. A luxury 5* hotel can be found here, which overlooks the marina.
Around the resort there is a good choice of bars and restaurants, most of which are sited
along the promenade. The nightlife in Playa Blanca is somewhat inadequate, the entertainment is limited to the shows organised by the
hotels. For those who crave a livelier nightlife will need to head to Puerto del Carmen, which is around thirty minutes by car.Water sports
can be arranged by the beachfront and boat trips leave regularly for the Papagayo beaches – the views of this gorgeous coastline are
stunning and boats can drop visitors off at the beach to be picked up by a later cruise.
The Town centre of Playa Blanca is located around the middle of the 9km coastline. From here
there are walks to the lighthouse in the west, and to Papagayo in the east, takes around an hour (for each walk) depending on your pace.
More active walkers may prefer a hike inland to the captivating Mountain Village of Femés which sits around 450m above sea level. From this
Village, panoramic views of Playa Blanca down below and over to the neighbouring Islands of Fuerteventura and Lobos can be seen.
A famous landmark - the Castillo de las Coloradas is sited on cliffs around 3km east of the resort of Playa Blanca
on Punta del Aguila. The Castillo de las Coloradas is not so much a Castle as a large lookout
point. It was constructed under the order of King Carlos III of Spain in 1769 to provide the south of the Island advance warning of approaching pirates. There is an inscription on the wall of the
Castle.
Beaches in Playa Blanca
Playa Blanca
Playa Blanca beach is located in the centre of Town; this small white sand beach has been
awarded a European Blue Flag for cleanliness. Due to its location, there are many amenities around such as bars, cafes and restaurants and
various other shops. The only thing towatch out for is the Fred Olsen Ferry, when it enters the harbour the waves break all the way up the
beach.Follow the lead of the locals and move yourself and belongings further up the beach if you want to avoid getting drenched!
Playa Flamingo
Playa Flamingo beach is located west of the Town, just a few minutes walk along the pleasant
sea-front walkway. This white sand beach has calm waters and not far from the Town amenities.

to the Towns amenities. The sea around Playa Dorada is usually very calm and is a favourite spot with residents taking their morning swim
