St. James Parish Church is located on Church and King Street, it was founded in 1782. There are many fine examples of sculptures; some are by the renowned British sculptor – John Bacon. The original Church was destroyed in the huge earthquake of 1957, but has been lovingly restored.
Barnett Estates is located on Granville Main Rd in Montego Bay. This 3,000 acre plantation still grows coconuts, mangoes, and sugarcane. The historic great house has been restored and is open to visitors. The Belfield 1794 is an open air restaurant located on the estate and was once a sugar mill.
Belvedere Estate is located at Chester Castle in Montego Bay and is a working estate set on some 1,000 acres of land and producing citrus, bananas, pineapple and coffee. It was once a prosperous sugar plantation (one of the first in Jamaica); until it fell foul of the Christmas Rebellion of 1831. The estate is now owned by Mr Pat McGann, who has opened it to the public so that all can share the natural splendour of its rivers and waterfalls, its ruins and exotic plants and birds. Visitors will be able to take a tour to learn about what life was like on the plantation, and people in period dress recreate the everyday jobs that were performed over a Century ago.

Greenwood Great House is located around 14 miles east of Montego Bay. It was constructed between 1780 and 1800, was once owned by the family of Elizabeth Barrett-Browning, the famous English poet. The original library of the Barrett family can be seen and has rare books that date back from 1697; also on display are the oil paintings of the family, rare musical instruments and unique antique furniture.
Rose Hall Great House is famous for its legend of 'The White Witch of Rose Hall'. Annie was the wife of John Rose Palmer, who supposedly murdered three husbands, is said to haunt the house. It was been fully restored back to its former magnificence in 1966 and left as a ruin - after being destroyed during the Christmas Rebellion of 1831. Tours of the house include tales of Annie’s wicked deeds; Annie’s pub is situated in the dungeon.
The Martha Brae River is located in Falmouth, Trelawny, around 25 miles from Montego Bay. Here you can take a raft ride on a 30’ bamboo raft through scenic vegetation and relax for a couple of hours. You can buy crafts from the many sellers that have set up along the banks of the river.
The Luminous Lagoon is located at Oyster Bay, east of Falmouth. The reason why it is called this is because of the microscopic organisms that give off a phosphorescent light when the water is disturbed. Visitors can have a swim in the lagoon; it has a depth of around 4-5 feet in the middle. Boats depart from the Glistening Waters Marina, where there is a restaurant and nightclub.
Charles Swaby's Swamp Safari is located in Falmouth, it covers around 4 acres of mangrove swamp. Take a walking tour through the swamp compound, the habitation of crocodiles that are native to the Island. This crocodile breeding station is home to adult, adolescent, juvenile and hatching crocodiles. The James Bond film – Live and Let Die was filmed here, where James Bond used the backs of crocodiles as stepping stones.
Windsor Cave is located in Trelawney, Windsor and is around 3km in length. Parts of the cave are still susceptible to water flows when there is heavy rain; therefore the cave is still expanding in size. The cave is inhabited by a colony of at least 50,000 bats. It is advised to use the services of a guide when visiting the cave due to the sensitivity of its inhabitants. The bat guano (excrement) used to be mined from deep in the cave during the 1930's and used as fertilizer.
*Please note: Histoplasmosis is a human fungal disease resulting from infection with the organism Histoplasma capsulatum, and is a possible risk to anyone entering a tropical cave. Histoplasma spores may be present in dry guano piles even if the cave is no longer occupied by bats. Anyone who has a weak immune system should not expose themselves to the risk of histoplasmosis and all visitors to Jamaican caves should be conscious of the fact that infection probabilities are high. The fungus is considered common in Jamaican caves and is closely linked with, but not limited to, cave dwelling bats.
Croydon in the Mountains is a working plantation located at the foothills of the Catadupa Mountains, around 24 miles from Montego Bay. You can take a guided tour of this predominately coffee and pineapple plantation, where you will be given the opportunity to see the production and to sample some of the fruits grown there. This is also the birthplace of Jamaica’s National Hero-Samuel Sharpe, who led the Christmas Rebellion of 1831.
The Animal Farm is located around 20 minutes from Montego Bay. The farm is set on around 6 acres, comprising of a bird sanctuary and petting zoo. A variety of species of birds, guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters and turtles can be found here. The farm also uses solar energy and can teach visitors about its viability, there is also a herb garden.
Dive sites at Montego Bay include:
Doctor’s Cave Reef: This site is suitable for beginner divers as the reef is sheltered and there is no current. Marine life includes small reef fish and various corals. Depths are from 30’ to 40’.
Old Airport Reef: This site is suitable for beginner divers and is located just offshore near the old airport buildings. There is Marine life at 20’, pretty coral caverns and crevices at 30’ -40’, ideal for reef crawling. Depths are from 20’ to 50’.
Basket Reef: This site is suitable for Intermediate to advanced divers. Plenty of basket sponges, sea fans and finger corals, Black-durgeons, parrotfish, rock beauties and occasionally dolphins. Depths are from 50’ to 150’.
Widow maker’s Cave: This site is suitable for advanced divers. The entrance is in 80', where tunnel opens into small cave. The way out is through chimney up to shallow reef. Glassy sweepers are within the cave, Creole wrasses, ceros, barracudas, and parrotfish at the edge of reef. There are also Black coral and deepwater gorgonians. Depths are from 40’ to 120’.
