Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and is known as the ‘Island of eternal spring’ and covers some 2.040 sqkm. Tenerife is home to salient volcanic landscapes and lush green countryside. Located just off the West African Coast, it has golden and dark grey sand beaches, pictorial mountain Villages, attractive Coastal Towns and constant subtropical climates.

 

The south of Tenerife attracts more tourism due to its hotter and drier climate, particularly the resorts of Playa de las Americas, and Los Cristianos. Further coastal development has expanded northwards from Playa de las Americas and now includes the previously small La Caleta. Puerto de la Cruz attracts the most tourism in the north of the Island. Tenerife has two airports, Tenerife Reina Sofia Airport -TFS (Aeropuerto de Tenerife Sur) in the south and Tenerife Los Rodeos Airport -TFN (Aeropuerto de Tenerife Norte) in the north of the Island.

 

There are various walks to suit the most ardent hikers to gentler strollers on Tenerife. Many walking tours can be arranged with English and other language speaking guides. Or if you prefer you can do it independently with the help of a walking map from a tourist office. There are over 200 miles of coast line to explore with steep cliffs and caverns. The Mountains make a fantastic hiking destination for the fittest due to the many steep hills. Some of the walks include; the Caldera around Mount Teide, The Teno Mountains in the north-west and the Anaga Mountains in the north-east. There are many enjoyable walks through the pine forests in La Orotava.

 

 

Accommodation on Tenerife ranges from hostels, budget hotels, studio apartments, villas and hotels of varying standards – 3* to 5*. There is a great Campsite available in Santa Cruz de Tenerife that has lots of facilities.

Tenerife Nightlife is vibrant in Playa de Las Americas on the well known Veronica's Strip, which is considered to be the best nightlife scene on the Island, it's packed with shops, restaurants, bars and nightclubs.

 

Los Cristianos is a more refined resort than, with a more sedate nightlife, the bars and restaurants are more suitable for couples and families. Throughout the rest of the Island, there are plenty of venues for nightlife to choose from, such as charming Tapas Bars and more traditional restaurants. In the south; you will locate all sorts from Spanish dance shows, magic shows and themed and jazz nights.

 

Tenerife has at least six Golf courses, with the majority of these being located in the south. Golf Del Sur - Tenerife South par 72, Golf Playa Americas - Tenerife South (9 hole), Amarilla Golf - Tenerife South par 72, Los Palos Golf - Tenerife South par (9 hole), Golf Adeje - Tenerife South (27 hole) and one in the north of the Island - Golf Club Real - par 71.

 

 

For water sports enthusiasts, Tenerife is a good choice of destinations to visit. There are several windsurfing schools on the Island for beginners. Tenerife also has an abundance of snorkelling and diving coves around the Island. In La Caletta there is a fantastic snorkelling cove, with flat rocks that lead into clear deeper water and a small flat reef. At the West of the Island, in Playa San Juan, the edges of the black sand are surrounded by rocks. In Puerto de Santiago there is a rocky cove with three pools teeming with marine life. In Buena Vista, there is a large rock pool formation in the extreme North West.

 

Diving in Tenerife will be a tremendous experience for both novice and experienced scuba divers. There is a variety of dive sites with night and shore dives. With a year round season there is abundant marine life, shipwrecks, caves, walls and more, lots of sights above and underwater.

 

Submarine trips can be taken from the harbour in the Village of Los Galletas. The trips last for around three quarters of an hour and give a fantastic insight to the Marine life and surroundings, without getting wet.
