Cactus Garden tenerife

Other attractions in the park include: A recreated
African Town with singing and dancing and traditional African merchandise for sale. Jungle Raid is a series of climbing frames and rope bridges (all with safety nets beneath) to clamber over, suitable for children and adults. The bob-sleigh type ride is where a sleigh type vehicle gets dragged to the top of a metal chute and then you slide back down (you can control the speed). There are also several restaurants and shops in the park.

Parques Exoticos is a Botanical and animals park that is located not far from Los Cristianos. This lovely ecological park covers some 70,000sqm and includes a tropical rain forest, the cactus garden, a butterfly garden and bat cave.

The beaches in Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos are just right for everything. There is an abundance of bars and restaurants to choose from, lifeguards, plenty of sun beds, water-sports and anything else you could possibly wish for.  So, it goes without saying, these are extremely popular, busy beaches.

Masca Village is located within a gorge in the north-west of the Island. The locals often refer to it as the forgotten Village – due to its inaccessibility until 1991 when a road was constructed. Prior to this, the locals had a very steep descent via the Mountain to the bay below – where they would use their boats to Los Gigantes nearby for essentials. The majority of visitors to this small sparsely populated Village are mainly hikers.

A popular hike is from the top of the Village down the Barranco to the bay which can take around 2 to 3 hours. Once at the bay, you can take a boat back to Los Gigantes harbour or for hiking aficionados climb back up the 2,000’ gorge. There is a vast range of plants, including many different varieties of cacti and some exceedingly vibrant flowers and you may see some very large lizards. Be mindful that the track can be rocky and hazardous in places.

El Medano was initially a small fishing Village for many years, it is located around 7km from Reina Sofia Airport. The strong north-east trade winds make for great windsurfing and surfing and this is what El Medano is renowned for; also, kite surfing is another popular activity here. The open flat beach faces east and even though its windy, it is not too choppy, which makes it a perfect all year round windsurfing competition site. There are a number of sheltered beaches that are ideal for sunbathing and bathing.

There are only a few hotels in El Medano, though they have excellent facilities such as golf and snooker and more. Nightlife is more subdued here; there are bars, restaurants and shops around the beach front and square. Livelier nightlife takes place some 15 miles away in Playa de Las Americas.  Playa de la Tejita in El Medano is a popular nudist’s beach.
